If you weren’t on South Beach at the 7th annual Model Volleyball Tournament, well, you’ve missed one of hottest scenes! gorgeous people, full of music, and tons of fun for a great cause. On February 20-21, at Lummus Park and Eighth Street, 10 a.m. through 6 p.m, crowds gathered to watch modeling agencies such as Next, CGM, Elite, Ford, MC2, Mega, Front, Oceans, Runways, and Wilhelmina compete against each other in a volleyball match.
People were dancing, getting their hair highlighted by Splat hairstylists, and generally having an awesome time relaxing in the unusually good weather. Intermixed with the models were professional volleyball athletes, just in case well angled, photogenic spikes and dips weren’t enough to keep everyone entertained for hours. Perhaps the only thing missing were the volleyball betting odds for the matches, similar to those offered on SBO-TH and the likes. Needless to say, the entire thing was as ‘Miami’ as it gets — gorgeous, neon bodies pulsating to a beat, showing off tans and muscles; some pretty fun (but competitive!) ball playing; and the blinding sky and sand framing it all!
Alongside the hottest models in Miami, clad in specially designed outfits by Labellamafia, was a live performance by Joe Jonas and his band DNCE. Their new single “Cake by the Ocean,” quickly growing into Miami’s 2016 summer anthems. During the performance, guests enjoyed a fashion show from Wildfox. And to keep the crowd, celebrities, and hotties bouncing, free refreshments were offered by brands such as Lipton, Ocean Spray, and Vita Coco.
The two-day tournament was hosted by the self-proclaimed director of vibes YesJulz, fitness queen Christmas Abbott (who also held an energized beach spin class on Saturday) and Kenny Santucci, with DJ Irie playing all of the best hits. Celebs and notable guests included Dwayne Wade, Miami Beach Mayor Phillipe Levine, Chanel Iman, Reggie Bush, River Viiperi, Hassan Whiteside, Olivia Ormos and Michael Malone.
And if that wasn’t reason enough to attend, the Miami Beach Volleyball Tournament raises money for the Irie Foundation, whose mission is to improve the graduation rate among young students in Miami. Just in case, you missed the festivities this year, the MVT is annual and open to the public. Combining beauty, brawn, and brains, it is one of the most anticipated events, locals and tourists alike, flocking to celebrate. For more information please visit: modelbeachvolleyball.com.
