Spotlight on: Amin Adjmi of STAYCOOLNYC, a Modern Twist To The Fashion of the Past

Meet the exceptionally creative Amin Adjmi of New York City: stylist, fashion trendsetter and more. This past summer, Boston University student, Mr. Adjmi started clothing line STAYCOOLNYC, which became a breakaway success in the fashion worlds of Brooklyn, New York City and Boston. Some of the hippest New York icons were spotted representing the brand on their Instagram accounts including Siblings Lucky and Pyper, America Smith, and singer Skizzy Mars to name a few and does photo-shoots with the incredibly skilled photographer, Shelly Nahama (AKA ShellNahPhotography), of Solifornia Fishing Company. The shoots were nothing but sheer genius due to the collaborative efforts of Miss ShellNah and Mr. Adjmi. Describing them as outrageous would be an understatement — the photos were shot everywhere from Brooklyn’s train stations to New Jersey’s beaches and skate parks and involved models pouring buckets of pink paint over their faces and bodies to mimic the graphic prints that are signature to STAYCOOLNYCs shirt designs. Now that’s what I call artistic expression in branding!

As he put it, “there was nothing left for me to do but to start my own fashion line. It was cool to represent other brands and to be complimented on my clothing but I knew it was never my creation,” as he says about his style before STAYCOOLNYC. He continues, “It was not what I wanted, I wanted to produce something of my own. I wanted to influence peoples’ style by my creations. The first step was going on an online designer site and creating a shirt for myself (The Retro Design). I wore it for a few days and then thought about selling the design to my friends. As time went on, I gathered seven of my friends who were interested in purchasing the piece. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive; they loved what I made. As time went on, more and more people started recognizing these pieces and were interested in buying them. I then decided to create another piece (The Vibe Design), which my friends continued to purchase from me. The word was spreading quickly and everyone I knew wanted a STAYCOOLNYC shirt. This motivated me to create our summer ‘15 collection. From then, I kept striving and pushing to develop STAYCOOLNYCs identity and brand image.”

73639034-78b1-45de-bc7e-9910e518b96dSTAYCOOLNYC is a retro inspired Chillwear brand. “Chillwear” meaning that it is a shirt, which is meant to be thrown on at any time. Whether you’re chilling with friends, relaxing at home, or going for a walk, STAYCOOLNYCs products are versatile and flexible. The simple and clean designs give the customer the ability to wear it at any time. All of the designs are long sleeve so it is meant to be that “go-to” piece you can toss on whenever you feel like it. You can go out for dinner in it, or even sleep in it: STAYCOOLNYC is more than just a brand, it is a movement and it is a lifestyle. The retro designs and graphic prints add to the cool and relaxed image it is portraying. It is heavily inspired by men’s’ style from the 80’s and 90’s based on the colors, designs, and patterns they used to wear at these periods of time in fashion. Each shirt is created with a retro feel in it to add a modern kick to the fashion of the past. As Amin Adjmi preaches, “Chillwear is the future of fashion.” He believes the future generations want simplicity and clothes they can buy that are comfortable, easy to wear, and fairly priced. He goes on to say that street-wear is an oversaturated term with no clear definition, which is why he has set out to create this new category of clothing. As time goes on Mr. Adjmi will continue to build his brand and he hopes to change the future of fashion. Amin is as much a skilled professional as a truly remarkable and talented human being. He is an artist of fashion, design and lifestyle. Consider me inspired.
