Meet Nancy Anteby: a Brooklyn based visual artist. In 2018, she graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Brooklyn College. She expanded on her art education during a semester living in Florence, Italy, studying art history and creating sculptures at the Lorenzo de Medici school. This experience also sparked Nancy’s fascination with travel photography, especially with 35mm film.

Nancy often commutes around New York City to see concerts and has even traveled to LA, Austin, Chicago, and even Florence, Italy and Melbourne, Australia to attend various live music events. Nancy’s love for music has translated into a passion for photographing other concert-goers.

In 2017, Nancy was a Festival Passport holder, during the inaugural year of Live Nation’s all access pass into hundreds of festivals across the globe. During this time, Nancy managed to sneak camera gear through security to capture hundreds of streetstyle photographs on festival grounds.
In April 2018, Nancy’s BFA thesis exhhibition displayed some of the streetstyle portraits she captured at Lollapalooza Music Festival, The Meadows Music and Arts Festival and Austin City Limits Festival. Nancy combined these analog film photographs with oil paint to create a unique dialogue about the colors and textures within the frame. These works resulted in her receiving the Charles G Shaw award for Art in June 2018.

In 2019, she provided photographic coverage for The Governors Ball Music Festival, with a focus on streetstyle imagery. “Wearing that media pass was a little dream come true for me. For a long time, photography has been a hobby and maybe a source or extra pocket change. This was the first time I truly saw how I could pursue a career path like this.”

Aside from her photography, Nancy’s visual art collection consists of drawings and oil paintings. She often labels her work as spiraling into control. Motifs of repetition and spirals, combined with her choice of color palate often give off a playful vibe, while still maintaining a sense of control. With her drawings and paintings, Nancy is often more concerned with process over product. Mixing oils on her painting palate, doodling mindlessly into a sketchbook, spontaneously approaching strangers to capture their portrait. These are all examples of how the artist’s process is truly about creating, rather than developing a plan in advance. She sees something or thinks of something, and acts on it immediately.
