Olivia Wilde loves to change her hair color and it seems that no matter what shade she opts for, her mane remains incredibly enviable. But that wasn’t always the case.
When she was a teen, the actress had a major mishap. “At one point I went from blonde to brown, and that gave me green,” Wilde tells PEOPLE. That wasn’t the worst of it, though. She goes on to admit, “Then I just went black. And when I tried to blonde again, I was left with a black stripe around the middle of my head. It was really unattractive.”
Wilde, a Revlon global brand ambassador, has come a long way since those days of green hair. And she’s learned the trick to trying new hues: patience. “I change my hair color so often for work that I get to experience all shades and all styles. I’m a big fan of experimentation, but with that it’s all about doing it slowly.” And the actress adds, “Luckily, my hair hasn’t fallen out, which is really amazing considering how much I dye it.”
She also keeps her mane in tip-top condition by not washing it every day, watching what she eats and using ammonia-free products — like Revlon’s new Luxurious ColorSilk Buttercream hair color, which features mango, shea and coconut butters. “We are exposed to so many different chemicals every day, so with beauty I’m a fan of having products that don’t have ammonia.” The other thing she loves about the Buttercream collection? The results. “[It gives hair] such a healthy silky look, it doesn’t leave any residue and it’s really hydrating.”
