Art Basel 2015 Events – Some Highlights from Delano, Mondrian, SoulCycle and More

Miami Art week was back and in full force for another great year. Feeling a little out of the loop that you missed out on one fo the hottest parties of the year? With a whopping 267 galleries and thousands of artists from all over the world descending upon the city’s shores, I would too, but no worries! I’m here to fill you in on the weeks events with pictures that’ll make you feel as though you didn’t miss a beat.

Sunday, November 29

Things kicked off Sunday, November 29 with The Little Lighthouse Foundation at Nautilus, A SIXTY Hotel. The event was from 1-4 pm and was open to the public. All proceeds were benefitting the foundation.

From Tuesday Dec. 1 – Friday Dec. 4

  • Art Meets SoulFrom Tuesday December 1 through Friday December 4 SoulCycle teamed up with acclaimed artist Gregory Siff for an art meets SOUL experience. The riders tapped it back at a beachfront pop-up studio at the 1 Hotel South Beach while Siff was onsite creating a unique custom installation using acrylic paint and paint pens on wood panels. It was pretty badass. And for everyone working to get a goodass, exclusive SoulCycle leggings featuring Siff’s take on the SoulCycle wheel; skull and mantra were available for purchase helping your buttox look it’s finest. SoulCycle also joined forces with Spotify to soundtrack the entire experience. These signature SoulCycle rides featured live DJ sets by Just Blaze, MS MR, Kilo Kish, and ASTR. To thirst your quench Juggofresh and Panther Coffee were on hand serving juices and coffee daily. But wait..there’s more! SoulCycle will open its first permanent Miami Beach studio at the hotel in January 2016 where Siff’s final piece will be installed.

  • DuJour Magazine Party took place at Delano South Beach. The private party was held from 10pm – 1am at the Delano Beach Club.
  • Nautilus, A SIXTY Hotel held one hell of a tent party for Flaunt Magazine from 9pm- 12am.
  • Everybody was getting their feel good on at Regent Cocktail Club with Alrin’s Trio. The event was packed full of guests and was open to the public. The party started at 7pm and didn’t stop until 2am.
  • From 8:30pm – 11:30pm The Villa, Casa Casuarina held a private party at Galerie Gmurzynska.

Wednesday Dec. 2

  • MoMA Design Store Presents The Skateroom at Delano South Beach.

    Let me just start out by saying Wednesday was one hell of a day! On December 2 at Delano South Beach, MoMA Design Store presented The Skateroom. MoMA Design celebrated an exclusive launch of their collection with The Skateroom and The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts with a private party in recognition of the iconic hotel’s 20th anniversary. With immersive installation throughout the legendary property showcasing exclusive limited edition series of skate decks featuring artwork by Andy Warhol. This was one cocktail party you didn’t want to miss! Nearly 1000 guests including Gaia Matisse, MoMA’s Ruth Shaprio and Emmanuel Plat, attended the event and were given the opportunity to shop these limited edition collections at the poolside cabana pop-up shop. These shops featured the Warhol skate decks, including 32 Campbell’s Soup Cans, Colored Campbell’s Soup Cans, and Gold Marilyn Monroe. DJ Mia Moretti and DJ Lola Langusta played tunes that kept the fashionable crowd dancing the night away.

 

  • ART AT GEN ART Mondrian South Beach

    Supported by partners Peroni and Flaunt Magazine, the legacy art program ART AT GEN ART hosted a re-launch event on December 2 at Mondrian South Beach.  Performing a live art installation at the event was U.K. artist William Mackrell. He created a piece entitled Arrival, ( a continuation of his LipSync series) in which he documented his travels from London to Miami on the iconic hotel’s lobby wall painting with his lips. Talk about talent! Over 600 guests enjoyed Mackrell’s live show, as well as the fully interactive multimedia program by Brooklyn-based collective Dawn of Man, whom projected visuals of Mackrell’s work along with custom material on the hotel’s poolside cabanas and a ping-pong ball filled pool. Seen guests having the time of their life were Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Karen-Eileen Gordon, Gaia Matisse and Kyra Kennedy.
  • FDR Lounge kept the party going from 11pm – close with Le Baron.
  • Nautilus, A SIXTY Hotel hosted  an Interview Cocktail Party from 6-9pm in the Cabana Club. Things really kicked off at the Artsy After Party was 9pm-12am.
  • The special edition of Havana Nights with live music by Renior and Friends was held at the Regent Cocktail Club from 7pm to 2am and was open to the public.



Thursday Dec. 3

  • Marie Saint Pierre and Objekt Magazine Present a Special Installation by Dawn of Man at Mondrian South Beach.
    Thursday, December 3rd was a beautiful day to witness fashion and art collide. Hosting the chicest cocktail party of them all, Marie Saint Pierre teamed up with Objekt Magazine at Mondrian South Beach to make this all happen. The Ruinart champagne fueled the soiree event featuring an innovative live art installation by Dawn of Man with chic furniture designs displayed by luxury womenswear designer Marie Saint Pierre. With over 200 guests having the opportunity to view Marie Saint Pierre’s unique furniture designs displayed throughout the iconic hotel lobby, they were also lucky enough to view the brand’s new Spring 2016 campaign, which was projected on to the poolside cabana. Dawn of Man’s fully interactive multimedia program continued on the facade of the property featuring a montage of creative projections including Marie Saint Pierre and Objekt logos. What would this party be without the flow of champagne and DJ Lola Langusta to spin the latest hits?
  • At Delano South Beach in the Delano Beach Club, Water For People was going on from 7-11 pm. Then from 11- close in the FDR Lounge Le Baron started.
  • Depart Foundation Cocktail Hosted by Jason Pomeranc took place in the lobby of A SIXTY Hotel from 6-8 pm. From 11pm to an hour early in the morning hours in the tent was Never Never.
  • From 7-9pm, Brown Jordan and Sunbrella toast to Art Basel with photographer Gray Malin. As a celebrations of art, design, and travel at Brown Jordan’s new Miami Design District flagship store. It’s an 8,600 sq ft, striking 3 level design of remained Florida materials. The event served as a “first look” and he store will officially open com January 2016.
  • Cleaveland Jones performed a hell of a set at Regent Cocktail Club from 7pm – 2 am.
  • With DJ Chris Bachmann and Jus ske at Rec Room where they brought 8 to take over the lounge from 11pm to 5am.
  • E11EVEN Miami hosted a public party to get you day started from 4am to 6am with DJ Mustard.

Friday Dec. 4

  • MoMA PS1 Celebrates Greater New York at Delano South Beach

    MoMA PS1 celebrated Greater New York in Miami with a private event on Friday, December 4th at Delano South Beach. Hosted by Sarah Arison, Adriana Cisneros de Griffin, and Klaus Biesenbach, this poolside bash welcomed museum patrons and art enthusiasts in celebration of Art Basel Miami Beach. There’s no doubt that this party was off the hook with over 1,700 guests attending with a featured performance by Lady Bunny, and an Eckhaus Latta with James K impromptu catwalk at midnight that brought the party right into the pool. DJ Kevin Beasley had this artsy crowd dancing all night with a little help from Stella Artois beers that really got us feeling the music. If you were lucky enough you were able to bump into Rose McGowan, designer Zoe Latta, photographer Petra Collins and artist Emma Sulkowicz that were all apart of this celebration.
  • Le Baron was also at Delano South Beach in the FDR Lounge from 11-close as usual.
  • Mondrian South Beach is where the Video Art Installation by Dawn of Man with Pool filled with ping pong balls.
  • The classic rock band Never Never performed in the tent and A SIXTY Hotel from 11 pm to the late hours.
  • SWGR Gallery had a live mural event by Lena Cruz. it was oen to the public from 11am to 4pm.
  • The Wrestlers featuring artist Aerosyn Lex also performed for the public at the Regent Cocktail Club from 7pm to 3am.
  • 8 took over the lounge again at the Rec Room where Formerly E-Rock and Mike Deuce performed from 11pm to 5am.
  • At E11EVEN Miami Bootsy Bellows: Vic Mensa performed with Devin Lucien and Balthazar Getty which was open to the public.

Saturday, December 5

 

  • Delano South Beach held the Gazelli Gallery Cocktail with Le Baron from 11-close in the FDR Lounge.
  • The Video Art Installation by Dawn of Man was held at Mondrian South Beach.
  • In the tent at A SIXTY Hotel the Artsy BBQ went down from 5-8pm. At 11 Never Never kicked things off and kept the party going to waaay late.
  • Open to the public oat Regent Cocktail Club Canvas and Canere performed from 7pm to 3am.
  • Hittin up the lounge at the Rec Room for the last time was 8 with Fly Guy and DJ Ross One playing all the catchy tunes.
  • DJ SAVI made sure the public had a great time by playing all the latest hits and more and E11EVEN Miami.

  • A-Trak performed for the closing up of Art Basek at E11EVEN Miami which was open to the public.

 

Daily Happenings

 

  • At the Patricia & Phillip Frost Museum of Science daily hard hat tours were going on upon request. They usually lasted between 30 to 60 minutes. Frost Science will bring an element of science, education and technology Miami is missing. This innovative museum will be structured around a lushly landscaped indoor and outdoor Living Core Aquarium of terrestrial and aquatic environments, featuring a Gulf Stream aquarium experience totaling over 500,000 gallons of saltwater. The facility will also feature the state­of­the­art full dome Frost Planetarium, the Knight Learning Center, Innovation Labs and Cafe, Baptist Health South Florida People and Science Gallery, and an Exploration Center featuring permanent interactive exhibits: Feathers to the Stars and The River of Grass.
  • Delano South Beach the MoMA Design Story x The Skateroom Pop Up. Skate decks were displayed throughout Delano November 30 to December 6. The Gazelli Gallery went on from Tuesday – Saturday with live portraits poolside.
  • Along the poolside of Mondrian South Beach the Video Art Installation by Dawn of Man along with the Collective Pop Up that was poolside Green Cabana Takeover. Open daily for lunch and dinner at the Sunset Lounge at Mondrian was Momo Sushi Pop up.
  • Hotel Victor held the Installation from LA based artist Greg Auerbach. Pieces were spray painted over reclaimed mixed-medias that ranged from a shiny police bullet shells to dirty old vintage newspaper clippings.
  • Open late into the night Byblos After Dark Lounge
  • In a booth at the Convention Center was Galerie Gmurzynska. Galerie Gmurzybska celebrated their 50th anniversary this year and the gallery is pleased to announce a specially conceived showcase, assembled with renowned curator and critic Germano Celant at the Convention Center. What was epic about this was it was the first time the galleries showed a retrospective installation of Karl Lagerfeld’s work, who the gallery has represented for over 20 years.

Ladies this was one shopping day you didn’t want to miss out on! Caroline® by Ana C. Grajales, an exclusive accessory brand, helped get us get into the holiday spirit.
