SHOWstudio teamed up with the brand new Miami Beach EDITION for their Art Basel Miami Beach launch and for their latest interview series

ShowStudio

SHOWstudio, the award-winning website, founded and directed by famed photographer Nick Knight, has consistently pushed the boundaries of communicating multi-disciplinary art forms online since 2000.  For their latest interview series, the site teamed up with the brand new Miami Beach EDITION for their Art Basel Miami Beach launch. SHOWstudio hosted a series of dynamic interviews on location in Miami from the hotel’s exclusive new bungalows.

Twisting the notion of the coaxing, cajoling and coercive interview that has become the mainstay of art and fashion journalism, the In Your Face interview series seeks to gracefully provoke and capture the leading figures in contemporary culture. Each ‘In Your Face’ interview is a living portrait, carefully framed by Nick Knight. With his innovative choreography of lighting and crop – tightly focused on the face to create a frame that is arrestingly intimate – Knight’s films trace the interior life of the subject offering unparalleled insight into the work of subjects drawn from the worlds of art, fashion and celebrity. The residency in Miami saw the following creative visionaries interviewed, please see  link to these interviews below.

Nick Knight commented: “I was always impressed by the directness of the interviews on the BBC in the 1960s. They were informed and intelligent and they asked difficult questions. Their visual delivery was as straight forward as the questions. In this series of interviews I wanted to take that directness further. When you look into someone’s face it is all the thousands of little facial movements that create a portrait of that person.

For this series, called In Your Face, the camera is focused in so close that the face fills the screen, revealing every passing thought, every change of emotion and every blink of the eye.  It will be a beautiful, but intense living portrait of people who hold strong opinions and challenging thoughts.  Already in this series are the French philosopher Bernard Henri Levy, Dinos Chapman, Yoko Ono and Vito Acconci.  To launch the second phase of the series, we have teamed up with the unique EDITION hotels where we will be hosting some of the most exciting people in fine art, fashion and film at their newest venture in Miami to coincide with Art Basel Miami Beach.”

Echoing the severely but beautifully composed portraits, the series of candid conversations position interviewer Carrie Scott against interviewee where the questions lead an intimate discussion with some of the 21st century’s most powerful minds. SHOWstudio will capture it all, up-close and on location at the Miami Beach EDITION, Ian Schrager’s first foray into Miami Beach since the launch of the seminal Delano 17 years ago.
