Tampa Bay Bucks’ CB C.J. Wilson is stepping away from his football career

focusedTampa Bay Buccaneers’ corner back C.J. Wilson is stepping away from his football career temporary, because of a recent July 4th fireworks accident. The accident resulted with Wilson losing his two fingers. Wilson is very optimistic that he will come back 100%, but he feels like he needs to take some time off to make sure everything has properly healed. Wilson’s agents had made a statement explaining the reasons, why Wilson is taking a step back and when he might return.

“On behalf of C.J. Wilson, he has decided to step away from the NFL at this time to focus on his immediate needs in recovery which are the foundation of his long-term health,” the statement reads. “When CJ is fully healed and able to return to the game, he will then continue his career at that time. C.J. is in good spirits and is continuing to focus on his rehab and the healing of his hand,” the statement reads. “He is a very strong willed young man with great work ethic and character. We look forward to seeing him play again in the future.”

In 2013 Wilson went undrafted, but was picked up by the Chicago Bears for a one year deal. He did not receive much playing time in Chicago; Chicago traded him to Tampa Bay where he started from the practice squad and worked his way on the field. He had appeared in the last two games of last season, where he had recorded 4 tackles. As of right now the team has placed him on the reserve/retired list.
