Telvin Nash: The Man of Faith

nashWith the opening day for baseball starting in a couple of weeks, Houston Astros’ left fielder Telvin Nash has been practicing  non stop getting his body ready for the approaching season. While certain players use music to motivate themselves, Telvin uses the good word and Ray Lewis’ motivation videos to get him inspired and motivated each and everyday.

“Just having God in my life has been a blessing. He shows you blessings even though we do not deserve.” I am thankful for the opportunity that he has given me to play a sport that I love says Telvin.”

Telvin has been playing baseball at an early age and had a good support system that pushed him when he needed to be pushed.

Having a great support system is a great way to mold people to become great leaders. I come to work everyday, practice, and have a positive light on others, because I want my positive spirit to rub on everybody that’s around me says Telvin”

Everybody has trials and tribulations that they have to overcome and Telvin has sprinted and hurdle the obstacles that were in his way, but he faces a new challenge. The challenge that he faces is himself. In his mind he feels like it is not enough for him and that is why he is always the first one in the gym or practice and the last one to leave.

Telvin had gotten drafted at a young age, but he feels like that was not his biggest accomplishments. “I feel like the best is yet to come. I do not have to talk about it, just relax, and watch me says Telvin.”

Telvin likes to encourage people on and off the field. “It does not take very long to tear a person apart by using negative words or images, but uplifting and encouraging somebody is everylasting says Telvin.”

A leader does not use negative words to get their point across, they use encouraging words to mold your mindset.

As the season approaches Telvin is very motivated by things he wants to improve. “Yes I had gotten drafted at a young age, but what good is that if I don’t show how good I can be with improving my all-around game. I don’t want to be just a number that was drafted young, I want to be great. I am hungry! I will do whatever to help my team and teammates out.

You want something, you have to go out there and earn it! Nothing in this lifetime is given and that is why I push very hard each and every day. This is like a 9-5 job, you need to play your best at any given opportunity says Telvin.

I live by this quote from motivational motivator Eric Thomas: You have to want your dream as bad as you want to breathe.

“Without faith and hard work, you will fail and I have sacrifice so much not to be put in that category says Telvin.”
