The 69th Tony Awards this year had very few surprises and more less scripted wins. The biggest surprise of the night was when Kendall Jenner had appeared at the event. Many guest as well as the attendants were shocked to see her there, but she had simply explained that Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour wanted her to be there and this event was something she wanted to attend.
Inside the theater Co-host Bradley Cooper, Kristin Chenoweth, and Alan Cumming entertained the stars with humorous metaphors, as well as jokes that would make your stomach ache. Helen Mirren took home her first statue for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play for her performance in The Audience, and six-time Tony Nominee Kelli O’Hara took home her first win in the Best Performance category by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical category. Fun Home (which won Best Musical) and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time took home the most statues for the night at five wins each with An American in Paris and The King and I following behind at four Awards each.
As the night went there were a couple of performances that literally tore the roof down. While the entertainment was crisp and to a tee, the winners of the night turned a lot of heads with their outstanding roles that was well deserved with a win.
Performers and presenters for the evening included Jennifer Lopez, Neil Patrick Harris, Vanessa Hudgens, Kelsey Grammar, Jim Parsons, Amanda Seyfried, Ashley Tisdale, Nick Jonas, Bryan Cranston, Joe Manganiello, Kiefer Sutherland, Debra Messing, Anna Chlumsky, Larry David, Jason Alexander, Misty Copeland, Corey Stoll, David Hyde Pierce, Jennifer Nettles, Marg Helgenberger, Rita Wilson, Rose Byrne, Thomas Sadoski, Sutton Foster, Taye Diggs, Taylor Schilling and Bobby Cannavale.
