Former US President Bill Clinton and the Prime Minister of Haiti Laurent Lamothe were two of the key highlights at Miami’s first joint Philanthropy Summit. The National Basketball Retired Player’s Association (NBRPA)-Miami Chapter, joined forces with the Head and Heart Philanthropy to host this unique invitation only event; marking the first collaboration between the two organizations.

Prominent philanthropists and high net worth individuals gathered to discuss best practices in philanthropy, domestic/global funding opportunities, and initiatives that are of importance to communities of color.

This summit is so important because it gives athletes an opportunity to ‘win’ off the court. By learning from the experts, harnessing the power of their celebrity and influence, they can literally change the world.

The day culminated with a dinner where President Clinton gave his keynote speech addressing the philanthropic work in which he has engaged since leaving office, with a particular emphasis on the rebuilding of Haiti.

Haiti’s Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe provided an update on redevelopment progress and social entrepreneurship opportunities. These topics have been of particular interest to the group since the 2010 earthquake.

“This summit is so important because it gives athletes an opportunity to ‘win’ off the court,” said Christal M. Jackson, founder of Head and Heart Philanthropy. “By learning from the experts, harnessing the power of their celebrity and influence, they can literally change the world.”

The funds raised that evening will be used for a philanthropic project that will focus on education in Haiti along with additional youth focused projects in the United States.
