The Millennials Project will be hosting a photography exhibit of Dade county men community leaders, at the Miami Rum Club Distillery located at 2320 N. Miami Avenue. The purpose of the Dade Men Photo Exhibit is to raise awareness on domestic violence and to recruit more men into the movement.
The exhibit features portraits and quotes of 12 Dade men community leaders chosen for their efforts in making Miami a safer place for women and girls.
“This project is part of the awareness campaign to free women from violence,” explained Guerrier. “It is a consciousness-raising to elevate the culture and engage men.” Women are often the victims of abuse and injustice, explained Guerrier. Not just physical, but emotional and verbal.
Guerrier’s demographic is the millennial generation, but the goal is to recruit all the good-thinking men of Dade County.
He hopes to make the photo exhibit a signature yearly event to promote the image of the new man. “It is a way of bringing the community together, to raise awareness and promote the image of the new man,” he said. “Young boys and young men can look up to us and see what manhood is really about.”
In 2009, Guerrier started the Millennials Project as a non-profit organization dedicated to help end all forms of violence against women by engaging men as allies.
The exhibit on October 1, 2015 from 7 to 10 p.m. and will feature complimentary cocktails courtesy of Miami Rum Club, food and bites sponsored by Naked Taco and Buena Vista Deli, and music by DJ Nuny Love. A $10 donation to the cause is suggested.
