The 2024 Tribeca Festival opened with the world premiere of the much-anticipated documentary “Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge.” This captivating film provides an intimate glimpse into the life of the iconic designer as she prepares for a museum exhibition celebrating her extraordinary career.

The premiere took place on June 5, 2024, at the OKX Theater at BMCC TPAC, 199 Chambers St, New York, NY. Diane von Furstenberg attended the event, along with directors Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Trish Dalton.

A plethora of renowned personalities attended the premiere, including Tribeca Festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal, Gayle King, Karlie Kloss, Arianna Huffington, and Brooke Baldwin. Tribeca jury members Selma Blair, Lucy Hale, and AnnaSophia Robb were also present, along with notable guests such as Jason Blum, Bobbi Brown, Barry Diller, and Prince Alexander von Furstenberg.

Following the screening, Gayle King hosted a lively discussion with von Furstenberg. Reflecting on the experience of watching her life story on screen, von Furstenberg quipped, “It was like being at the gynecologist,” and added with her trademark humor, “I looked like sh*t. I said I liked wrinkles, but I didn’t realize I had so many.”

Von Furstenberg also shared a memorable anecdote involving David Bowie and Mick Jagger, humorously noting, “It remains a better story not to have done it.”

Commenting on the documentary, she said, “I did enjoy it. At the end, it’s really a tribute to my mom… That’s why I had a big life. My mom wanted me to have a big life… I think I was in charge since I was 5 years old.”
