Aesthetic Analysis: The Top Ten Best Dressed at the Met Gala (2019)

On Tuesday, May 7th, 2019, the world’s most famous celebrities and iconic figures converged on 5th Avenue in New York to attend the infamous Met Gala. Sure, there are plenty of other opportunities to splurge on six-figure gowns, only to be worn once per lifetime, but the Met is the only instance in which you won’t have your sanity questioned for doing so. “Camp: Notes in Fashion” was this year’s theme, and it became apparent that the attendees were almost as confused as the spectators. After all, camp is a hyper-nuanced term that has, like all words, adapted to the times. While some guests came up with their own arbitrary interpretations, others did their homework– and it shows.

There’s an unspoken rule of balance that should be maintained when selecting a dress for a Neo-formal event like the Met. Style, poise, fit, and costume as it pertains to the theme are all elements indicative of best-dressed attendees, and our top ten exhibited balance without looking gimmicky.
