lucy-hale-teen-choice-awardsWe’re Lucy Hale fans for a number of different reasons: Her acting chops are impressive, she can carry a tune like no other, she remains down-to-earth and grounded despite her meteoric rise to fame, and she stands up for her sisters. On top of it all, this woman has style in spades. Need further convincing? Check out her look from the August 16th Teen Choice Awards.

In a glittering blue and black dress with a glowing face to match, the Pretty Little Liars star (who won the night’s award for Choice TV Actress!) and mark. Brand Ambassador looked particularly stunning. Kelsey Deenihan, beauty guru and mark. Celebrity Makeup Artist, created the look, and Kristin Ess worked her magic on Lucy’s hair.

How exactly did the afternoon of primping unfold? Lucy shared the details of her pre-awards show prep — and favorite photos from getting glam — exclusively with Beauty for a Purpose.

What’s your day-of awards show snack of choice?

LH: Always iced coffee. And usually something light before like hummus and crackers or veggies. Or a bowl of fruit.

What’s your favorite part of the awards show day?

LH: I love getting my hair and makeup done and laughing with my “team.” They always put me in the best spirits. It’s also fun to see old friends at these types of things.

What is it like getting ready with Kelsey Deenihan and Kristin Ess?

LH: Never a dull moment. Two of the funniest women I know.

What makes the Teen Choice Awards different from other awards shows?

LH: This one is purely about fun. And I love that it’s fan voted. I think it’s amazing that it gives teens a voice.

“Lucy is like one of those unicorn clients,” says hairstylist Kristin Ess. “She’s never afraid to try new things, she doesn’t get stuck wearing one look forever, she looks good in any hairstyle and she makes me laugh so hard while we work.”

“You couldn’t ask for more in a client. We very much understand each other’s aesthetic, so styling her or translating what she wants is never a problem,” Ess says of taking Lucy’s long, low ponytail to extra-gorgeous status.

As for the star’s makeup, “the Teen Choice Awards are a fun event so we definitely wanted to try something a bit different with Lucy’s makeup look,” says mark. Celebrity Makeup Artist Kelsey Deenihan. “I wanted to incorporate a bold color onto the eyes. Wanting a matching moment, navy and cobalt blue seemed to be the perfect combo for Lucy’s Julien Macdonald blue and black dress.”

Below, Deenihan shares exactly how she created Lucy’s awards-show glam.

Face:

“I started by prepping Lucy’s face with moisturizer and foundation. Next, I defined Lucy’s cheeks with mark. Glowdacious Illuminating Powder in Amped Up and followed with mark. Touch & Glow Shimmer Cream Cubes All Over Face Palette in Pearly Pink for a subtle pink glow.”

Eyes:

“I defined Lucy’s already amazing and full eyebrows with a brown eyebrow pencil. Next, I used a deep navy shadow and swept the color all over Lucy’s lid and into the crease. Next, to get a pop of cobalt blue I applied mark. On The Edge Liquid Eyeliner in Blue Chrome to the entire lid and under the bottom lashes. To finish Lucy’s eyes I applied a couple coats of mark. Lash Act Build and Define Mascara in Black to add a bit of drama.”

Lips:

“Since we wanted to keep the focus of the look on Lucy’s eyes we went for a pretty bare lip and used mark. Glow Baby Glow Lip Gloss in Pretty Femme to complete the look.”
