The Electric racing series Formula E will be more popular than Formula 1 in five years claims Virgin Racing chief Sir Richard Branson. In 2010 Branson was running an established F1 team and now he backs the Virgin Racing team in Formula E. The reason why he thinks that Formula E will becoming larger and create more fan base than the F1 is intriguing. “I think in four or five years you will find Formula E taking over from F1 in terms of number of people.”As time goes on the clean energy type of business will power ahead of other businesses.”20 years from now “no new road cars will be petrol driven”, adding that the current technology was “antiquated.”
The Formula E was created to attract more of a broader audience into the racing industry and help develop electric vehicle technology. FIA chief Jean Todt, who was present at the same news conference, told BBC Sport he believes both competitions can live side-by-side. He is very optimistic that F1 racing would still be around . “It’s the same family. I hope Formula E will become bigger. It’s a nonsense to think they are competing against each other,” said the Frenchman.
There has been a lot of criticism, as well as fans implicating that they want something new or something that could improve the legacy of the F1 series. It has yet to be discussed with the public, but each of these organizations knows whats best for their audience, as well as their company.
