The countdown is on for one of Los Angeles most anticipated cultural openings. On September 22, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will welcome the public to its new home in Exposition Park, bringing together art, cinema, illustration, comics and visual storytelling under one extraordinary roof.
For those planning a visit, there is another reason to look ahead. Skywalker Grill, the museum’s signature restaurant, is also set to open September 22, with reservations now available.
Designed by Rockwell Group, Skywalker Grill occupies the top of the museum and was conceived as a destination in its own right. The restaurant draws inspiration from the welcoming spirit of George Lucas’s Skywalker Ranch, pairing classic American cuisine with California ingredients and expansive views across Los Angeles.
The restaurant will welcome both museum visitors and the public for lunch, dinner and weekend brunch. Its hours will extend beyond the museum galleries, giving Angelenos another reason to make the restaurant part of an evening in Exposition Park.
The menu takes a polished but approachable approach to American cooking. Dungeness Crab Cakes, Lobster Corn Dogs, Crispy Chicken Milanese, Honey Miso Glazed Salmon and the Skywalker Ranch Wagyu Burger are among the signature dishes. House made pastas, seasonal salads and shareable starters complete the menu.
The interiors provide another connection to the museum. Rockwell Group’s design combines contemporary and Midcentury Modern influences with handcrafted details. Cherry wood panels wrap the walls and ceiling, while softly illuminated Corian surfaces bring a subtle glow to the dining room. A sculptural bar anchors the space, with intimate seating areas designed for conversation.
An outdoor terrace extends the experience into the surrounding landscape, offering panoramic views of Los Angeles. A private dining room adds another setting for gatherings and celebrations. The restaurant arrives as part of a much larger cultural moment for Los Angeles.
Co-founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will open with more than 1,200 objects across more than 30 galleries. The inaugural exhibitions span centuries of visual storytelling, from historic painting and illustration to comics, photography and cinema.
Among the opening presentations is “Star Wars in Motion,” which brings together vehicles, props, costumes and illustrations from the first six films of George Lucas’s Star Wars saga.
The museum’s architecture will be part of the experience. Designed by Ma Yansong of MAD with Stantec, the 300,000 square foot building rises within an 11 acre campus in Exposition Park, with gardens designed by Mia Lehrer and Studio MLA.
Together, the museum, gardens and Skywalker Grill create a new cultural destination in Los Angeles centered on the power of visual storytelling.
