Pittsburgh Steelers Newly QB Michael Vick throws a beautiful 63 yard pass as first attempt to Martavis Bryant. Vick is known to throw crisp strikes to his receivers once he has had time to step up in the pocket. The Steelers signed Vick after Bruce Gradkowski sustained a season-ending hand injury. This has been a huge opportunity for Vick to capitalize on since other teams have passed on him, saying that he is washed up or either a risk to their team.
In 12 NFL seasons, Vick has managed to rack up 22,093 passing yards with 131 touchdowns and 87 interceptions, but he will forever be synonymous with his ability to make plays with his legs.He has 6,010 career rushing yards with 36 td’s and he is stands only as the only QB to do so.
Vick has been very optimistic with his role in the Steelers’ organization; “I think that I’ve done a lot throughout the course of my career,’’ Vick told the NFL Network in June. “I’ve proved that I can win games and play with some consistency and be a leader. I think those are the qualities that you want in a quarterback.’’
Cornerback Brandon Boykin, acquired by the Steelers in a trade with the Eagles this summer, played with Vick in Philadelphia and said he was a great leader.“I love Mike. I was able to play with him for two years in Philly. He still has a lot left in the tank and a guy who is passionate about football. I’m sure everybody in the front office and the rest of the team will welcome him with open arms if he can help us win.”
“He became a leader right away and a guy everybody looked up to knowing he was a veteran and had been through a lot just on the field. Knowing what he was capable of. I think when he comes here, he’ll be the same, he’ll do what he’s asked and he’ll do it well and blend in fine.”
The Steelers are resting the first unit this week, so fans will get to see a lot of Vick and what he is capable of doing to defenses around the league.
