Meet the fabulous founder, CEO/ head designer, Rosie Assoulin. Her brand, Rosie Assoulin is a Luxury Women’s Fashion, based and sourced in NYC and has been described as elegant and sophisticated with a cutting-edge chic style that is suited for a specific client who is not afraid of fashion. Being a breakaway success in the business, she is a true innovator of a new aesthetic in fashion and art. Starting her very own fashion line, she has been heavily involved in every aspect of the business and is considered by many to be an influential fashion icon.

Last year, Rosie Assoulin was honored at the CFDA Fashion Awards when they named her the winner of Swarovski Award for Emerging Womenswear Designer, an annual Collective Award, in which she receive $28,610, used to develop collections for her namesake brand. “It gives us the ability to play and explore, which is a huge part of the creative experience,” Assoulin told WWD. Nadja Swarovski, a member of the Swarovski executive board, said Assoulin’s “playful yet powerful” collections appeal to both critics and consumers. To win Swarovski’s Collective Prize, designers are required to work with the Austrain brand’s famous crystals to embellish certain collections.

Rosie Assoulin began using her grandmother’s sewing machine to experiment with pattern, texture and style as a means of exploring her identity and self expression when she was just thirteen years old. Though young, she intuitively understood that the complexities and contradictions of life would not easily find expression through literal representations. Over the next fifteen years, Rosie opened herself up to the extraordinary possibilities of design. She developed an encyclopedic understanding of fashion and the greater culture that contextualizes it. Her passion flows from an appreciation of the transcendent nature of beauty in all its forms, driving her to develop a visual vocabulary to express concepts that cannot be verbally articulated. She dedicated her time to honing her skills, initially under the tutelage of her mentor, and future mother in law, veteran jewelry designer Roxanne Assoulin, at Lee Angel.

After a brief stint at Fashion Institute of Technology, she found herself at Oscar de la Renta in New York, watching the always-elegant Mr. de la Renta drape, cut, and pin his legendary designs. Later, Rosie sought out a life altering opportunity to spend time in the design studio of Lanvin in Paris, where she bore witness to Alber Elbaz’s pure, unbridled creativity, and unmatched design talent. After working under all three of her childhood idols, their imprint and inspiration would forever more inform her perspective and aesthetic appreciation, and, for that, she is eternally grateful and humbled.

For Rosie, all aspects of life are rich with beauty and meaning and filled with the potential for boundless creativity and connection. Through her personal and professional experiences in jewelry, floral, and event design, she has found that every moment is an opportunity to cultivate her perspective. In late 2012, Rosie decisively turned back towards her first love, fashion, and her eponymous collection made its debut. The Rosie Assoulin design aesthetic toes the line between the romantically fantastical and reliably practical. This wardrobe that she shares with the world is a blend of sculpted ease and bold lines. As a mother, daughter, sister, wife, friend and designer, Rosie’s curiosity seeks to inform the ever-changing definitions and identities of our daily lives. Ever inspired by all of the roles people hold, she seeks to reinterpret the wondrous sights, sounds, and feelings we all encounter in life through her designs.

“I started interning with my husband’s mom’s jewelry company, Roxanne Assoulin for Lee Angel. I knew him before I started interning there but that’s how we built our friendship and our relationship. I did that from when I was 14 to 18. Then I interned with Oscar de la Renta for a year, then Adam Lippes, then Brian Reyes, then Lanvin, then I did event planning for a year, and now I’m here.”

Her debut collection for resort (she started with resort because it’s “celebratory” and “spends the most time on the buying floor” she explained) is a really stellar mix of sportswear and evening wear that combines couture volumes and luxurious fabrics with an easy relaxed almost pajama-like feel. Assoulin used the word “easy” to describe many of the pieces. Silk pants come with a built-in tie that recalls a drawstring on pajama pants and certain jackets have extra pocket room so you don’t have to lug a purse around. Assoulin’s even putting out a wide leg pant she calls, “mall jeans,” for a relaxed style. The luxury is in the details: One striped evening dress is hand-painted by a Brooklyn artist; another is cut of individual strips of fabric, each strip has its own separate pattern. Her flair for vintage is apparent in many of her designs as well.

All the fabrics in her collection are sourced from Italy and everything is made in New York. Rosie really feels passionately about keeping everything in New York, stating that it is the right way for a young designer to start in the big city: giving them control and connection. Rosie Assoulin believes that future generations want simplicity and clothes they can buy that are just as comfortable as they are stylish. Introducing a new aesthetic in fashion and design, Rosie Assoulin is a revolutionary designer in the industry.
