SIUDY BETWEEN WORLDS RETURNS TO MIAMI WITH AN HISTORIC INTERCONTINENTAL ENCOUNTER BETWEEN OLD WORLD EUROPE AND MODERN DAY LATIN AMERICA

Antinio Canales and Siudy Garrido

Audiences experience the acclaimed Flamenco Fusion showcase and Siudy’s most memorable performance to-date alongside legends of the stage from Seville and Broadway

One week ahead of its highly anticipated debut in Orlando, the coveted and contemporary flamenco artiste, Siudy Garrido, bowed before an overwhelming full house of applause following the second weekend performance of the highly acclaimed SIUDY Between Worlds Entre Mundos, inside the Knight Concert Hall at The Adrienne Arsht Center For The Performing Arts in Miami, that took place on Saturday, September 20th and Sunday, September 21st.

Pablo Croce Productions, led by the Latin Grammy nominee, award-winning executive producer and artistic director, Pablo Croce, re-imagined the mesmerizing dance theater spectacle and brought the production back to South Florida, and its home town of Miami by way of popular demand to celebrate the progressive and contemporary fusion of traditional flamenco with multiple urban dance forms.  Symbolizing an on-stage encounter between the old European continent and Spain with that of modern day Latin America, audiences witnessed unforgettable lead performances by the show’s co-founder and talented choreographer, Siudy Garrido, alongside the world renowned Flamenco legend from Seville, Antonio Canales.  The acclaimed Broadway star of West Side Story, George Akram, who is also starring in the Orlando show at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre on September 27th, also made a special guest appearance for the shows in Miami.

Antonio Canales_SIUDY Between Worlds“These were our most memorable shows in Miami to-date,” said executive producer and artistic director, Pablo Croce.  “Since our inaugural presentation in 2009, the production has undergone so many positive changes and has matured to appeal more than ever to audiences throughout Florida.  Siudy Between Worlds is a cross-cultural celebration of life and love and we feel the dance theater community and audience in Central Florida will fall in love with our on-stage story as much as Miami has proven to. We thank all our sponsors, patrons and supporters for helping to make our return such a success.  Most of all, we wish to thank The City of Miami and the artistic community at large for celebrating with us our love of theater and the arts.”

The new 2014 edition of Between Worlds comes to both cities with an amazingly re-designed production, set and lighting.  The Miami shows featured a special dance troupe that had not traveled or toured with the production previously, and introduced a special guest appearance by the world renowned Flamenco legend from Seville, Antonio Canales, who performed exclusively for the two Miami shows.  Siudy Garrido was originally an understudy in Canales’ dance company, and Canales made a headline performance as Siudy’s father in the Flamenco World during the redeveloped Entre Mundos show.  The shows in both Miami and Orlando feature a new addition and special guest appearance by the acclaimed Broadway star of West Side Story, George Akram, who plays Siudy’s love interest.  Celebrated Flamenco guitarist, Jose Luis Rodriguez provides his own unmistakable style of musical accompaniment.

“I love to perform in front of such a culturally rich audience that Miami is always guaranteed to deliver,” said Siudy Garrido.  “Miami has always been in our hearts and we consider South Florida our home away from home.  Having the honor to perform alongside my dear friends Antonio Canales and George Akram gave the show something extra special for the audience to remember. I have been so touched by the warmness and support of this community and we are all extremely pleased that our performance has resonated so deeply with those who managed to experience our work.  I would like to thank all our supporters for their love and kindness.”

The progressive and contemporary fusion of traditional Flamenco with multiple urban dance forms, features a lead performance by the show’s co-founder and talented choreographer, Siudy Garrido, who is a 2011 nominee for the Drama Desk Award in outstanding choreography.

Antonio Canales_Siudy GarridoA cast of more than 20 performers grace the stage, manifesting the primeval and futuristic vision of Pablo Croce and the choreographic excellence of Siudy Garrido. The show brings to life an unforgettable love story, told through the universal language of percussion and dance that is set in a futuristic world. In the wake of a catastrophic and climatic apocalypse, humankind grasps desperately to its existence, forcing the survival of small, segregated tribes. In a world without rain – lakes, rivers and seas are evaporating and tensions rise between the remaining tribes that are on the brink of war, leading humanity into a desperate struggle for survival.  Confrontation prevails, with tribes competing for water – as the most important resource for life – in a world in which lawlessness is abundant. From the moment the curtains are raised, Siudy makes a dramatic entrance, commanding the stage with her presence in a perilous landscape that provides the perfect juxtaposition between the art of melodic Flamenco and an aggressive hybrid of urban dance. Each tribe represents a core artistic talent that is carefully revealed throughout the intensity of the storyline.  As a desperate world continues to unfold, the audience experiences the true extent of this spectacular, world-class performance, intricately weaved into an unforgettable and climactic ending.

SIUDY Between Worlds is a cross-discipline dance theater performance spectacle that integrates one-of-a-kind, progressive, Flamenco choreography using a sampling of live urban and afro percussion.  Traditional instruments from across the globe are organically weaved into street beats and beatboxing, among other musical influences.  Breakdance, hip-hop and funk dance troupes fuse their movements in a portrayal of a struggle for survival. Award-winning Flamenco composer, Sevillian Diego Franco, scores the original music for Siudy Between Worlds.

Executive producer, Pablo Croce, interprets the performance as “Shakespearean,” but simplistic in its outlook on drama.  He describes both ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ together with ‘West Side Story’ as prominent influences on the theme of prohibited love that is a common thread throughout the tale.  While presenting a newly established world-class cast of performers on-stage, the Orlando debut of SIUDY Between Worlds Entre Mundos will be an uncensored showcase of Siudy’s finest work.

A portion of proceeds from ticket sales for the Orlando show will go to the BeBrave Foundation, benefiting children receiving treatment for cancer.  Siudy Garrido will perform a private showcase for children from the BeBrave Foundation at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre in Orlando during the afternoon of Friday, September 26th.

SIUDY Between Worlds Entre Mundos will make its debut in Orlando on Saturday, September 27th, at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre, for which tickets are available through Ticketmaster.

SIUDY Between Worlds Entre Mundos will also stage performances in the following cities in 2014:
