The Hall of Fame Champions weekend was filled with some great tennis along the way with with great memories from the fans who had attended to watch these great tennis players contend for the qualifying round. On Monday fans got to see Rhode Island native Jared Donaldson in an exciting and thrilling victory over Austin Krajicek. Donaldson struggled at first, but he continued to fight and won his sets 6-3, 6-2. He was very humble and gave a word full words of what this meant to him; “It is truly special from the heart, looking around the stands and seeing all my friends and people I’ve known my entire life,”said Donaldson.
Here is updates on Mondays’ victories: On Monday , No. 7 seed Steve Johnson opened the tournament with a center court win over Michael Berrer. Next up, John-Patrick Smith and Bernard Tomic went head-to-head in an Aussie battle. Smith, current wold No. 156, notched his first Tour level win with a big upset over Tomic, the tournament’s No. 3 seed and the current world No. 25. No. 2 seed Ivo Karlovic survived a thrilling victory, over Illya Marchenko 7-6(4), 6-7(6), 6-4 after two hours and 23 minutes.
Bill Talbert Center Court was dominate in the last match of the day and the headliner and Rhode Island native Jared Donaldson overcame a huge margin over Austin Krajicek in three sets to advance to Round 2.
