Arts and Culture Bring Relief after Devastation of Hurricane Matthew
Miami, Florida (Nov. 12, 2016) – Soho Beach House and L’ETAGE magazine proudly announced the launch of “We Are Haiti,” a philanthropic celebration of Haitian arts & culture created by Haitians for Haiti arts and culture to bring relief after the devastation of Hurricane Matthew. L’ETAGE partnered with the Cool Creative Inc, Pauldine France, Haitian Cultural Art Alliance, and Hennessy. Over 150 people attended the inaugural fundraiser to support the hurricane relief effort for Haiti and the destruction left by Hurricane Matthew.
The event was a huge success and raised over $10,000 for Haiti. All proceeds from the event were donated to the Fonkoze, Haiti’s largest Microfinance Institution, The Jack Brewer Foundation, an international philanthropic initiative focused on “empowering from within.” Prodev projects, which address educational challenges with Children of Haiti, and Sow A Seed, which reduces hardship and promotes sustainable change in the lives of impoverished children in Haiti and the Caribbean.
Guests enjoyed Haitian inspired hor d’oeuvres provided by the Soho House chef, while sipping on Hennessy inspired cocktails and Lolea Sangria. The evening was celebrated with talents that included Haitian folklore dancers, Haitian drummers and a live performance by Jack Beaubrun. Walls were adorned with Haitian art curated by Najja Moon of the Blck family.
“We want to give Haitian artists a platform for empowerment, while also creating an event that educates the American public on the beautiful culture native to Haiti and inspire them to contribute to the relief funds to preserve that very culture,” said Sabrina Boasman, publisher of L’ETAGE magazine.
“We Are Haiti” is not just an organization; it’s a movement — organizing fundraisers and events to support charities on a consistent basis. The initiative is dedicated to helping raise awareness and funds for Haiti through its unique arts, culture, and music, while simultaneously bringing awareness to active, reputable grassroots organizations doing great work in Haiti. L’ETAGE magazine plans to continue to hold similar fundraiser events on a quarterly basis. You could even hold a fundraiser for Haiti yourself! It is possible to hold a fundraiser for anything you like. You can find more ideas for fundraisers on the GoFundMe website.
The island of Haiti has endured many great natural disasters, yet its beauty lives on through its culture. Together, we can help preserve our Haiti.
