Experience a conversation with Hessel as she explores creativity, daily inspiration, and the art of living an artful life.
Artist, writer, and art historian Katy Hessel has built a reputation for reframing art history through a more inclusive lens, bringing overlooked voices into sharper focus. On Tuesday, April 7, she will be in Miami for a one night appearance at Dale Zine in the Miami Design District, for a talk and book signing centered on her latest release, How to Live an Artful Life.
Hessel is best known for her platform @thegreatwomenartists, which has celebrated women artists since 2015, and for hosting The Great Women Artists Podcast, where she has interviewed over 160 artists and writers including Marina Abramović and Tracey Emin. She is the author of the Sunday Times and New York Times bestseller The Story of Art Without Men, which won Waterstones Book of the Year 2022, and her work spans writing, curation, lectures, and arts documentaries for the BBC.

Her new book takes a more personal turn. Structured across the months of the year, How to Live an Artful Life draws on interviews, conversations, and years of research, bringing together reflections from artists including Marina Abramovic, Nan Goldin, Lubaina Himid, and Louise Bourgeois. Rather than positioning art as something distant, the book invites readers to weave creativity into their daily routines in small, meaningful ways.
The evening begins with doors opening at 6:30 p.m., followed by Hessel’s talk from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., and a book signing and reception afterward. With Hessel in Miami for one day only, the April 7 event offers a rare opportunity to hear directly from one of the leading voices reshaping how art is experienced today.
