Brandon Amira Redefines Home Gates with Miami Kinetic Light and Minimalist Design

Combining aluminum artistry with hidden LEDs, Amira’s latest work turns a functional gate into an immersive visual experience.

In Fort Lauderdale, Miami-based light and metal artist Brandon Amira is transforming the very notion of residential entryways. His latest creation, Middle River™, is a six-foot-tall by twenty-one-foot-wide aluminum gate sculpture that fuses technology, exterior design, and minimalist artistry. Through his studio, Brandon Amira Designs, Amira has crafted a piece that is both functional and profoundly sculptural.

The electronic sliding gate is constructed from premium aluminum and integrates a warm white 3,000K LED lighting system. The embedded illumination is entirely concealed within the aluminum framework, producing a soft internal glow that transforms the utilitarian gate into a visual centerpiece.

“I blended durable materials with an embedded, custom-made illumination system to create a modern gateway that is equally functional and visually breathtaking,” said Amira, who has a background in general construction. “With concealed power supplies, the structure is built to withstand the elements, rain or shine, for decades to come.”

For Amira, light is more than a feature—it is the medium through which the sculpture communicates. “Being a light artist may be a fairly new concept for some, but it can create a cerebral and captivating experience when light enhances different shapes, textures, and forms within a sculpture,” he said. The careful concealment of the LEDs allows the piece to reveal itself gradually, encouraging viewers to explore its three-dimensional nuances.

“My integrated lighting system is seamlessly wrapped inside the aluminum and hidden from view. With three-dimensional depth and embedded illumination, onlookers can explore the sculpture from different angles, revealing hidden nuances and symbolic meanings,” Amira explained. As people move around Middle River™, its layered forms and subtle interplay of light and shadow invite reflection while maintaining a refined, minimalist aesthetic.

Finished in a Southern Bronze nano-textured polyester TGIC powder coating, the gate combines weatherproof durability with high-performance architectural finish, designed to endure the South Florida climate. The structure exemplifies Amira’s ongoing commitment to blending function with artistry.

“Is it a metal gate or a sculpture? To me, it’s both,” he reflected. The piece is part of his Parallel Series, which explores minimalist metal forms enhanced by embedded illumination. “As the latest piece in my ongoing light art series, The Parallel Series, I continue creating modern, multi-dimensional structures that integrate minimalist metal forms with embedded illumination. This approach allows me to bridge modern design, functionality, and technology while creating intimate and magical spaces throughout South Florida,” he added.

Middle River™ marks the fifth installation in the Parallel Series. Some of Amira’s larger-than-life illuminated sculptures are currently on display across Miami, including Miami International Fine Arts, Aura Copeland Contemporary, The House of Arts, the Miami Beach Convention Center, and the Business for the Arts district, among others. “Whether people encounter my sculptures while walking their dogs at dusk or simply driving by, I hope it sparks curiosity and a sense of warmth and strength,” Amira said.
