On Wednesday, December 4, 2024, during Art Basel Miami Beach, the Serpentine Americas Foundation and the Serpentine Council hosted a private VIP brunch at Casa Tua in Miami. The elegant affair celebrated the Serpentine’s 10th anniversary in the Americas, providing the perfect backdrop for an intimate gathering of artists, patrons, and leading voices from the arts, business, technologies, and cultural industries. Guests, dressed in fashionable attire, arrived at their leisure, mingling over exquisite offerings while fostering meaningful connections.
Bettina Korek, CEO of Serpentine, and Hans Ulrich Obrist, Artistic Director, welcomed a distinguished roster of guests, including Rebecca Allen, Sarah Arison, Beeple, Carlita, Sadie Coles, Thomas Dane, Rufus Du Sol, Derek Fordjour, John Gerrard, Miles Greenberg, Noah Horowitz, Yinka Ilori, Jewel, JR, Marc Lotenberg, Ralph Nauta (Studio Drift), Reginald O’Neal, Diana Widmaier Picasso, Shaun Regen, Patrizia Sandretto, Lauren Taschen, and Dustin Yellin. This influential gathering underscored Serpentine’s ongoing role as a catalyst for cross-disciplinary dialogue and innovation.
A central highlight of the brunch was the celebration of the Lauren Halsey monograph, co-published by Serpentine and Rizzoli. Designed by ALASKA ALASKA, the London-based studio founded by Virgil Abloh in 2017, this comprehensive publication features contributions from poet Will Alexander, art historian LeRonn Brooks, musician George Clinton, writer and filmmaker Harmony Holiday, poet and performer Douglas Kearney, and Serpentine CEO Bettina Korek. It also includes a conversation between Lauren Halsey, Serpentine’s Chief Curator Lizzie Carey-Thomas, and Hans Ulrich Obrist. The monograph coincides with Halsey’s first UK solo exhibition, emajendat, currently on view at Serpentine South until 2 March 2025, where she has transformed the gallery into an immersive “Funk garden” attuned to the natural setting of Kensington Gardens.
Announcing its 2025 programme, Serpentine will host significant solo exhibitions by artists across generations who push the boundaries of media. Next year’s line-up features Arpita Singh, Giuseppe Penone, Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley, and Peter Doig—artists whose practices reflect and respond to our evolving cultural, technological, and environmental landscapes. Additionally, 2025 marks the 25th anniversary of the Serpentine Pavilion commission, pioneered by Dame Zaha Hadid in 2000. A new Pavilion will be unveiled in June, accompanied by events tracing its influential legacy and future potential.
Currently on view at Serpentine are exhibitions that exemplify its forward-looking mission:
• Lauren Halsey: emajendat at Serpentine South (Until 2 March 2025)
