Atlanta celebrities and tastemakers gathered this past weekend for Movie Noire’s Atlanta premiere of the highly anticipated film ‘The Color Purple.’ The event took place on Saturday, December 23rd, at the luxurious AMC Phipps Plaza in Buckhead. Well-dressed attendees socialized, enjoying sweet treats sponsored by the Atlanta-based dessert company One Son Creations, and signature ‘The Color Purple’ themed cocktails sponsored by Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

The ‘Black Carpet’ featured stars from ‘Married to Medicine,’ Phaedra Parks & Dr. Heavenly Kimes, ‘Tyler Perry’s The Oval’ star Kron Moore, and the surprise guest of honor, legendary screen actor Louis Gossett Jr., who stars in the film.

The audience indulged in popcorn and live entertainment by Atlanta musician Philip Adair as they awaited showtime. Louis Gossett Jr. surprised the attendees as he came in to introduce the film, leaving the audience stunned. Shortly after, Gossett was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his over 40 years in film and television, leaving attendees with a memorable experience.

Movie Noire, a social event and movement created to promote and celebrate Black television and films, was founded in 2018. It debuted its first event on February 15th, 2018, with the ‘Black Panther’ movie premiere in Atlanta. ‘The Color Purple’ marks its fourth staging.

‘The Color Purple’ (2023) is a film adaptation of the 2005 musical, based on the classic 1982 novel by Alice Walker and the 1985 film. Produced by Oprah Winfrey, who starred in the original film as the beloved character Sofia, the film features Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Ciara, and H.E.R. It is now in theaters.
