When Byron Allen isn’t building a media conglomerate by acquiring 11 TV news stations for $11 million, he’s doing his due diligence by contributing to charity.
This year in Los Angeles was no difference—where Allen hosted his annual Oscar Gala through his company, Entertainment Studios, held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
All $1.5 million of proceeds raised from the night’s event went to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, a charity that Allen holds dear in his heart.
“The children’s hospital does amazing work,” says Allen. “Unfortunately, I became very ill when I was a young child and the Children’s Hospital took very good care of me. They didn’t charge us a penny [and] they didn’t turn us away. They’ve done it many many times since I’ve been there. That was years and years ago and I can’t do enough to thank them.”
Guests included celebrities such as Quincy Jones, Tiffany Haddish, Chris Tucker, and more.
Tucker shared his take on the night’s event.
“It’s so important to give and help,” he said. “I have a foundation myself and I know how much joy I get out of it to help others, to give, and to learn about what’s going on in the world.”
The gala included dinner, private auction, and performance by Maroon 5.
