The 2024 Tribeca Festival continued its dynamic presentation on June 14 with an array of world premieres, performances, and engaging discussions. A highlight of the festivities was the official kickoff of De Niro Con, celebrated with a special reception at the Greenwich Hotel. Attendees included Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, Quentin Tarantino, Billy Crystal, David O. Russell, Melissa McCarthy, JR, Nas, and others.
Day 10 of the festival featured a retrospective of “Jackie Brown” at the SVA Theatre, where De Niro and Tarantino were joined by Uma Thurman and Rosenthal. The screening was followed by an animated discussion between the filmmaker and actor. Later, De Niro and Crystal participated in a lively fireside chat after the screening of “Analyze This” at the Indeed Theater at Spring Studios.
Kevin Bacon marked the 40th anniversary of “Footloose” at the OKX Theater at BMCC TPAC, walking the red carpet and sharing a candid post-event discussion. Bacon confirmed a past remark by then-studio head Dawn Steel, who had called him “not fuckable” during casting, humorously adding, “Yeah, that’s true. I think it’s true that I’m not fuckable, but it’s also true that she said that. She definitely said that.”
Melissa Etheridge took the stage at the Beacon Theatre with an acoustic set of her hits following the world premiere of her documentary, “Melissa Etheridge: I’m Not Broken.“
The Harry Belafonte Voices for Social Justice Award was presented by Angela Davis at the SVA Theatre after the world premiere of “Following Harry.” Honorees included Rosario Dawson, Jesse Williams, Aja Monet, Aloe Blacc, Carmen Perez, Matt Post, RodStarz, and Sean Pica.
