South Florida After-School All-Stars Celebrates its 5th Annual Gala

The South Florida After-School All-Stars recently held its 5th annual gala at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum. The reception paid special tribute to South Floridian’s who have contributed to children’s education.

This year’s honorees included the Honorable Mattie Bower, Mayor, City of Miami Beach, Dr. Michael Alessandri, Executive Director, UM/NSU Center for Autism & Related Disabilities and Director of the Division of Community Outreach and Engagement and Clinical Professor of Psychology and Pediatrics at the University of Miami.

Anastasia the great paintingArtist, Anastasia the Great, whose clients include Bill Clinton, Pope John Paul II, and Stanford Ziff, did a live painting demonstration and the CEO of Ms. Latina International and Ms. International World, Angela Posillico, hosted  the event and red carpet, along with her models and titleholders.  Czech Republic music icon DJ Hana was there spinning the latest hits.

All proceeds from the evening supported the daily programs of the South Florida After-School All-Stars which to date support approximately 4500 kids and 32 middle schools daily in Miami Dade County.

The South Florida After-School All-Stars affords each child an opportunity to become further enriched in the areas of academics, enrichment, and health and fitness, keeping them engaged, while keeping the kids, communities, neighborhoods and businesses safe.

Founded by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in Los Angeles, California, the South Florida After-School All-Stars was known as the Inner City Games. Subsequently, in 1995, the Inner City Games was later renamed the After-School All-Stars, with 13 chapters throughout the country including our very own South Florida After-School All-Stars. Since its inception and steadfast mission to better impact the lives of inner city students preparing them for success in school and in life, the South Florida After-School All-Stars is the largest national organization specifically focused on serving middle school age students.
