This celebration, planned for the evening of Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at LAMM Industries, is set against the backdrop of Art Week Miami and the prestigious 21st Annual Art Basel. The gala is anticipated to draw 200 art enthusiasts, collectors, gallerists, and philanthropists, marking it as a convergence of art, empathy, and social transformation.
Highlighting the event will be the presence of Zion Clark, a symbol of resilience and the vast potential of the human spirit. His life, marked by overcoming formidable challenges in the foster care system to achieve success as a professional athlete and motivational speaker, aligns deeply with the ethos of Foster Dreamzzz. The evening will shine a light on a critical yet often overlooked issue: the plight of youth in the U.S. foster care system. This system encompasses over 400,000 children annually, with about 20,000 of these young individuals aging out each year into futures filled with challenges, including homelessness, incarceration, sex trafficking, and substance abuse. The sobering realities are mirrored in these statistics:
- 20% of these youths face homelessness upon turning 18.
- 60% of child trafficking victims come from foster care backgrounds.
- 80% of inmates in U.S. prisons have experienced the foster care system.
These figures underscore the need for initiatives like the ‘Foster Dreamzzz’ documentary, spearheaded by Allen J West, aimed at spotlighting these issues and advocating for meaningful change and support.
