There comes a time in life were you have to take a leap of faith and just weather the storm. Adversity comes in different forms and it will attack you if you are not strong. Deena Johnson, who has founded her business Awesomeness After Adversity has dealt with different obstacles that only made her stronger. As a little girl in the big city of New York, Deena Johnson was mentally and physically abuse by the people she thought she could trust, she was raped, and was kicked out the house at the age of 18. Her life was filled with torment, but she always knew that if she kept being faithful to God positive things will happen.
Little did she know that God was going to use her as a motivational tool to help the youth out. As Deena was dealing with these problems internally, there was a bigger issue that she realized she needed to jump over. The problem that she faced was the honest reality of how hard life is when you was not taught communication skills, or the idea of filling an application out; not to mention being a single mother that was living day to day trying to make ends meet. “At that current time in my life, I was dealing with a lot. I barely ate, because I understood that my child would come first before anything. We would share bites of sandwiches. I did that because I didn’t want my baby to go hungry.”
“My child is a little older now and I am proud to say that we both overcame a lot to get to where we are now. I never want to see my child go through the things that I have been through.”
Dena has set her sights on being an influence on the world and loves reaching out to people that needs help understand their situation. “I love to be a role model for these individuals, because this world could be cold at times. People gave me the opportunity to grow and prosper at certain things I lacked and it was a blessing to have them fighting in my corner. Everybody needs to understand that you have to have a positive approach about certain things, yes I have been through hell and back, but I was not going to let that stop me from being a star that helps everybody shine to there full potential.”
Awesomeness After Adversity is an organization that is willing to help people that has been in similar situations like Deena. “It is a blessing to help and encourage these people to better themselves and go out their and encourage each other. I love what I do and it took me awhile to get her, but I am in a happy place.”
