Lea and Roy Black along with Steven M. Mariano of The Mariano Foundation proved you could give back in style this past weekend. The Blacks’ hosted The Blacks’ Annual Gala at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach on October 25. Returning for its 20th year, the star-studded gala benefitted the Consequence Charity, Teach for America, Breakthrough Miami and other worthy causes that support at-risk youth.
The Queen of Soul, legendary Aretha Franklin headlined this event and gave an outstanding performance after guest enjoyed a live and silent auction with luxury items.
The Andy Warhol-themed event kicked off with celebrity arrivals, including Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Courtney Love and special guest host Ross Mathews of E!
The Blacks’ welcomed Flo Rida, Swiss Beatz, Amy Purdy of Dancing with the Stars, Lisa and Lenny Hochstein of The Real Housewives of Miami, Salvador Camarena, celebrity stylist; Nick Loeb, entrepreneur and socialite; Greg Lotus, famed editorial photographer; David and Jacqueline Siegel of The Queen of Versailles; Helio Castroneves; Tinsley Mortimer; Hernan Arriaga, famed decorator. The Governor of Florida, Charlie Christ, and the Mayor of Miami Beach, Phillip Levine was also in attendance
The live and silent auction had guests bidding excitedly on a variety of luxury items, including a one-year lease on a 2015 Jaguar F-TYPE Coupe, exotic trips, special sporting events, and fine jewelry.
Mayor Levine proclaimed October 25 as “Lea Black Day” and presented her with a key to the city as recognition for 20 years of fundraising and philanthropy.
“Aretha’s performance was over the top and memorable,” said Lea. “We are so grateful to the guests for their generous support of a cause that helps so many kids that have so little.”
The Consequence Charity is an organization founded by Lea Black on a mission to support educational resources and experiences for at risk youth.
