The U.S. Women’s National Team is going to the World Cup after a dominating victory against Germany, who a lot of people thought would beat the U.S. In the first half the U.S. had missed so many shots and was being a tad bit lackadaisical on the offensive side, in the 67th minute the outcome of the game had changed. U.S. striker Alex Morgan was awarded a penalty kick, which gave life to the United States.

After Lloyd had found her stroke after the penalty kick that was all the United States needed to put a little more effort with defeating Germany. “We always believe that we’re the best in the world or that we can compete with the best in the world,” O’Hara said after the victory. “But we still gotta job to do and we gotta finish it. That’s how you become number one in the world and win a world cup.”

Germany put a lot of pressure on the United States’ Goal keeper and was tenacious with attempting to get a goal. They never stop trying, if anything you have to credit the Germany offense with attempting to stay in the game, despite the second half. The U.S. got off eight shots, five on goal, while Germany got only one shot off on Solo.

When asked about her calmness, Lloyd had this comment to say; “No, not at all. I just remained, having my eyes on the ball, and slotted it home. I knew what I had to do,” Lloyd said after the USA victory. “It’s a dream come true, this is what we train for. I know this was a great game and a great win but my eyes are all on the final.”

It is not all “candy and rainbows” just yet, U.S.W.N.T has a greater goal in sight when they will face either Japan or England on Wednesday to be crowned champion. “It’s not about the system. It’s about the players on the field. They did a great job,” USA manager Jill Ellis said after the match. “They played their hearts out with guts tonight. I’m so, so pleased for them. We prepared very, very well. We watched a lot of film and broke it down, but the players executed. That was one of the keys to this victory.”
