City views, interactive displays, and creative offerings make for a memorable December outing
Derrick Adams brings his latest installation, Tree Huggers, to the terrace at DUMBO House this December. Set against the Manhattan skyline and Brooklyn Bridge, the installation transforms the space into a playful and interactive environment for the holiday season.
Tree Huggers features trees with outstretched arms reaching toward visitors in gestures of welcome and curiosity. Each tree is wrapped in a mix of vibrant fabrics and patterns including stripes, polka dots, cheetah print, and Kente cloth. The work turns a familiar holiday symbol into something alive, playful, and unexpected. Adams describes the installation as an invitation for visitors to engage and reflect while enjoying a visually striking experience.
The installation is the centerpiece of Soho Winterland, the seasonal program at DUMBO House. Guests can explore chalet-style food stalls serving festive treats such as pretzels, sausage rolls, fried chicken, and desserts. The terrace also features cocktails from Johnnie Walker, Mr. Black, and Seedlip as well as warming drinks such as spiced cider and hot toddies.
Soho Winterland offers live music, vinyl nights, holiday masterclasses, and interactive activities designed to bring visitors together. With Tree Huggers at the center, the terrace becomes a space where art, community, and the holiday season come alive.
High above the East River, Adams’ installation reminds visitors that familiar traditions can be reimagined with creativity and color. It is a festive experience that invites engagement, interaction, and a sense of wonder during the holiday season.

Tree Huggers by Derrick Adams will be on view from December 10, 2025 through January 1, 2026 at DUMBO House.
