American Lung Association Supporters Enjoy a Fabulous Dinner and Celebration with All the Trimmings as Five Local Celebrity Dancers Compete in American Lung Association’s Florida’s First-Ever Ballroom Dancing and Dinner Fundraiser
The American Lung Association leaps boldly into a new level of excitement, putting a dramatic new spin on its 20th Annual Florida LUNG FORCE Sunset Soiree dinner with a live Dancing with the Stars style show and competition on May 30 at the Fort Lauderdale Ritz Carlton.
As guests sit down to enjoy a tempting gourmet repast, they will be delighted by the dazzling artistry and style of talented local dance performers, many of whom they know as local business people, healthcare partners and friends.
American Lung Association supporters and dinner guests can donate in advance of the big evening to sponsor their favorite performers as part of the organization’s fundraising efforts. Each dancer has a goal of raising $15,000—the equivalent of funding 30 full days of lung cancer research. After strutting their stuff on the dinner show stage, dancers also receive performance points. The combination will determine the winner of the evening’s Celebrity Spotlight Award, powered by Florida Power & Light Company.
Funds raised though the competition and dinner realize vital support for the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease through local programs, advocacy efforts and groundbreaking research.
At the dinner, guests will enjoy a lavish gourmet experience, including open bar with themed cocktails and tableside wine. They also will enjoy the opportunity to peruse the bounty and bid on a host of silent auction items.

Meanwhile behind the scenes, the five competing dancers have been practicing diligently for two months with professionals from Fred Astaire Dance Studio Fort Lauderdale to prepare their original ballroom routines for the evening. Alexis Frazier, Emmy-award winning journalist and anchor for the Channel 10 News team, will preside as the master of ceremonies.
“We are excited to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the LUNG FORCE Sunset Soiree, an incredible campaign that is funding groundbreaking research and advancing early detection initiatives to save lives,” said LUNG FORCE Sunset Soiree event co-chairs Drs. Caren and Glenn Singer.
Many participants in the dancer lineup have a personal connection to lung disease. Learn about their experiences and commitment here.
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. More people die of lung cancer than colon, breast and prostate cancers combined. Estimates are that more than 18,500 people in Florida will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year, and nearly 10,100 Florida deaths from lung cancer are predicted.
However, the American Lung Association stands as a strong beacon of hope. More Americans than ever before survive lung cancer. The survival rate has increased by almost 40 percent during the last decade. The Association’s mission of funding research, encouraging lung cancer screening and reducing stigma around the disease saves lives.
