A community-driven clinic and coaches workshop highlight how youth development and local partnerships are shaping Miami-Dade’s long-term legacy ahead of 2026

Virginia Gardens Soccer Park quietly shifted into something larger than a local field as the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Miami Host Committee, in collaboration with Miami-Dade County, brought its ONE GAME ONE FUTURE initiative to the community on Saturday, May 2, through a youth soccer clinic and Coaches Workshop centered on access, mentorship, and long-term impact.

What unfolded across the park felt less like a scheduled activation and more like a shared rhythm. Young players moved through drills and small-sided games, guided by coaches who treated each repetition as both instruction and encouragement. Between touches and passes, the work of the day revealed itself in subtler ways—confidence building in real time, communication forming through motion, and a sense of belonging taking shape through play.

Alongside the clinic, the Coaches Workshop created space for educators and community leaders to step back from the immediacy of the field and focus on what happens beyond it. Conversations centered on how sport can be used as a steady framework for mentorship—how consistency, structure, and trust can shape environments where young people are not only taught the game, but supported through it.

The initiative also included on-field training sessions that emphasized skill development and teamwork, while opening remarks and a group photo brought everyone into a shared frame at the start of the day. Commissioner Natalie Orbis, Miami-Dade County Commissioner for District 6, joined youth, educators, and community partners in support of the program.

“As a mom, I know the World Cup is bigger than what happens inside the stadium. For our children, this is a chance to dream bigger, play harder, and see that the world’s game belongs to them too,” she said. “In Miami-Dade County, we are focused on turning this historic moment into real opportunities for young people, stronger community programs, and neighborhoods that come together through sports. ONE GAME ONE FUTURE is how we make sure the FIFA World Cup 2026 leaves more than memories. It leaves a legacy our families can feel.”

Rodney Barreto, Co-Chair of the FIFA World Cup 2026™ Miami Host Committee, reflected on the broader intention behind the initiative and its place within the city’s lead-up to the tournament.

“As Miami prepares to host the FIFA World Cup 2026, initiatives like ONE GAME ONE FUTURE reflect our commitment to creating lasting impact beyond the tournament. By expanding access to soccer and investing in youth development, we are helping build stronger, more connected communities across Miami-Dade County.”

The day carried a cultural undercurrent as well, with the Good Neighbor Day America program and Ecuadorian singer Alex Ponce adding moments of performance and presence that expanded the experience beyond sport alone, without pulling it away from its central focus.

Leadership from the Miami Host Committee, including Chief Marketing and Community Officer Janelle Prieto and Director of Community and Legacy Jennifer Roche, were present throughout the initiative, underscoring a longer arc of work that extends well beyond a single day on the field and points toward 2026 as both milestone and starting point.

As the final whistles faded, what remained was not the structure of the event itself, but the impression it left behind—of a game already doing its quiet work in the lives it touched.
