Vanessa Bell Calloway to be Honored at Harlem School of the Arts Gala 2026 in NYC with Music by D-Nice

The Harlem School of the Arts (HSA) will host its signature annual gala, Curtains Up: HSA Celebrates Broadway, on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the storied Ziegfeld Ballroom. This is an evening where artistry, elegance, and philanthropy converge at the highest level.

The evening will honor Vanessa Bell Calloway amongst individuals whose careers exemplify what becomes possible when talent meets opportunity.

HSA is a historic institution founded in 1964 by soprano Dorothy Maynor where for 62 years world-class instruction, financial aid, and youth development coexist. HSA has spent more than six decades preparing young artists not only for careers in the arts, but for leadership, entrepreneurship, and impact across industries. The gala is the institution’s primary annual fundraiser, raising critical funds to sustain and expand that work.

At the heart of this year’s celebration is Vanessa Bell Calloway, whose presence embodies timeless sophistication and creative excellence. For many, her legacy is forever etched in cinematic history through her memorable appearance in the royal wedding scene of Coming to America, starring alongside Eddie Murphy in a cultural touchstone that continues to resonate across generations.

Beyond it, Calloway has cultivated a dynamic and enduring body of work, with standout performances in films such as, What’s Love Got to Do with It and Shameless, as well as a commanding presence on television in series including Saints & Sinners, Black Lightning, and The Oval.

On stage, she has captivated audiences in acclaimed theatrical productions and continues to lend her voice and vision as a director and producer. Her career reflects not only artistic range but a sustained commitment to portraying powerful, nuanced women while shaping narratives behind the scenes.
